01:44:00 - A day at WDANZ Conference Wellington, 2007
Attended a half day at the WDANZ Conference in Wellington today, presenting on Web Video. Talked over the reasons why your web site should be getting into video content... and beyond.
It's my first WDANZ event, and certainly won't be my last, even as a presenter I got a huge amount to value out of the networking and the other presentations. It's great to see that a commercial model can still deliver, and deliver quality.
Usually you'd find at a networking event that 30% or more are the "Homer Simpsons" there for the food and beer, employer said they had to be there. Not so with the WDANZ conference - while attendees came from a wide range of background, and different skills and areas of expertise, there was a passion there that I've not seen for a while. Definitely came away from half a day inspired.
Some how managed to leave the fancy new business cards sitting on the desk in the office (the box was bulky so I took it out of my pocket) and so I had to rely on pink slips and Slide handouts in the Networking.
During the day I bumped into (he rolls out the XFN)
- Vaughan Reed - MD of Contegro - a brilliant CMS
- Michelle Miles - Director of eContent, who are experts in web content
- Russell Holland from e-c-.co.nz, who gave a great presentation on building a hosting business
- Brett Taylor, there flying Natcoll colours and dishing the good code on Javascript
- Alan Cox, from leftclick
- Michael Brandon, SEO master from SearchMasters - Who i first 'met' with Nigritude Ultramarine a few years back
- Dennis Smith, CEO of WDANZ - great to meet and talk in person
- David Allan, Director of InfoAge from Wellington
- James Harvey of iCatchers
- Vaughan of website.co.nz - Labyrithyes, I know I have him twice
- Mark Smith of Webadvantage
- Bruce Clement of Domain Appraisers
- and a heap more people, that I hopefully at least said hi to!
Oh, and Me, Jo Booth from Mesh|net and MovieFest
If you want to catch some of the action then pop over to WDANZ, and check out the public seminars later today (yes It's already tomorrow. 4 hours till work time)
