17:24:00 - Hanimex - again!
Back a couple of years ago I bought a FujiFilm FinePix 2800Zoom Digital camera. Cost about $1200 at the time -- and by the time I bought chargers batteries, power adapters etc.. i'd spent $1600. Not bad I thought.
4 days after buying it I was using it one day and it wouldn't turn on. Weird -- tried everything.. in the end took it back -- and it went to Hanimex for repair. Apparently the power supply chip had fried itself. It took a lot to convince them to cover it under warranty... but they did
Roll on a couple of years of good use. One night the thing emitted smoke -- and didn't work.. I took it into the camera shop again -- turned out nothing was wrong.. just flat batteries.. all good.
Roll on to about a week ago -- the camera stopped working. Changed batteries.. tried the power adapter.. nothing. Wouldn't even retract the zoom lens. I take it into the camera shop -- now part of WPS - City Store. They send it to Hanimex for evaluation.. I get the report back -- the POWER SUPPLY CHIP HAS FRIED ITSELF! This time it's not under warranty -- and they want $300 to fix it. The camera is worth about $400 now -- and you can buy a decent equivalent for $500... so I don't reckon it's worth fixing.
I'm pissed off tho -- same fault -- twice! I call that faulty workmanship / parts ! Consumer Guarantees Act... I should get it replaced or repaired for nothing!
I expect a camera to last more than 2 years! My film camera is more than 8 years old.. and still going strong.
