01:44:00 - A day at WDANZ Conference Wellington, 2007

Attended a half day at the WDANZ Conference in Wellington today, presenting on Web Video. Talked over the reasons why your web site should be getting into video content... and beyond.

It's my first WDANZ event, and certainly won't be my last, even as a presenter I got a huge amount to value out of the networking and the other presentations. It's great to see that a commercial model can still deliver, and deliver quality. Read on... )
If you want to catch some of the action then pop over to WDANZ, and check out the public seminars later today (yes It's already tomorrow. 4 hours till work time)

23:40:00 - A Night Surf.. Trolling List Archives...

I am not sure if I have understood the culture of VBScript right, but it may be a problem in terms of emergence of libraries without a master plan.

AHA; you have it! Without a master plan, you are headed for chaotic
incompatibles on a global scale, MUCH WORSE than what you lament today

Link to OP in context

I can't recall how it happened, but I ended up reading through the list archives for the WHAT WG this evening, and came across this one. I smiled.

Ok, that inspired me to find out how I ended up here. Scrolling back through some 342 pages of browser history - it seems it all started with a post to the TNC list. The Gadgets vs Widgets one:
http://list.thursdaynightcurry.com/mailman/private/wellington/2007-January/005526.html

In which I referenced David Pogues "Windows ISN'T copying OS X" video, To which Mr holloway.co.nz had already meantioned XUL - which piqued my interest in how Opera was coming along with SVG/XUL, and what the status of Canvas and SVG was with Apples Widgets... etc. Which brought me across a reference to "The WHAT" - which I Googled with useless results. -- but persisted and eventually got to the What working groups spec on Web Forms 2.0 - which seemed to be a little off track with what I thought the W3C where doing. I then found it had been submitted to the W3C.. and the submission was acknowledged with comments. - Intrigued I popped over to their mailing list archives and searched for W3C... and discovered a "discussion" ensued on their mailing list....

anyway - about 3 hours later, i'm still surfing. PJs, warm bed and all...

20:11:00 - macTV #020 - Trafford Centre Grand Opening (Exclusive)

I always get in too late (or actually iTunes is so useless at downloading podCasts when they first get put up) that macTV #20 - the exclusive video from the opening of the Trafford Apple Store had been served a takedown by Apple when I tried to get to it.

After reading the intro..
This is the mother of all macTV Exclusives - The internal grand opening video from the Apple Store Trafford (Manchester, UK). It doesn't get any better than this guys. Well, it does, because check out the HD version...

I really wanted to watch it ... Veoh has it tho:

18:22:00 - The Big Telecon... aka "Evil Telecom tries to shut down critics"

Evil Telecom tries to shut down critics

I think Telecom finally got round to watching the Telcon video themselves:

Who was commenting online it wouldn't be removed because Telecom would suffer a backlash? Maybe Telecom read Russell too?

Quoting Russell Brown on publicaddress.net

Telecom doesn't have much choice but to grin and bear this one. In theory, I guess it could contact YouTube with a copyright complaint (YouTube tends to stay the right side of the DMCA and take down clips immediately on complaint) but that wouldn't be too smart: Evil Telecom tries to shut down critics isn't the headline it needs right now.

Heh.

ooo: Maybe Telecom is blocking my emails as well?
